The Adventures of Diesel

Oh this dog! This is the story of how “Diesel” came to live on the Mace Place.

I did some volunteer work at the local animal shelter. I took photographs of some of the animals that were waiting for adoption. It was a Saturday in late September and Mo was bringing me one dog at a time. I laid on the floor and played with them to try to get them to not be so timid. I had just finished TRYING to photograph a yippy, barky, chihuahua. Mo was taking her back and I was looking at the back of my camera trying to delete the million pictures I had taken of the chihauhau, when the door opened up and this beautiful blue heeler came charging into the room.

If you know anything about heelers, they are not necessarily a friendly breed of animal. Probably not a good animal to have around small children since they tend to like to chase things and nip their heels when they run. Anyway, he came charging in and my defenses went up. He jumped into my lap and just started wagging his tail and licking my face. Of course…I fell in love! I told Mo “I’m not taking his picture!” she replied “You have to, we need to get him adopted.” I said “He’s coming home with me!”

Yep, that was it! He was a perfect match for our family and our life style. I phoned David to let him know what I had found and snapped a quick picture with my phone. I sent it to him and his first question was “Does he have a black mouth?” Like I’m going to stick my head into the mouth of a strange dog and look!

We couldn’t take him that day because he had just been neutered and needed to rest and finish up his shots. On Saturday, October 3rd, 2015. We brought that beautiful boy home.

We weren’t sure how he was going to react to all the cattle and also to our dog Rowdy. We had him on a lead and walked him around the yard and the lots. He kept looking at the cattle with these eyes of wonderment and then he would look to me as if saying “Are those all mine!?”

It has been an adventure to say the least! From chewed up garden hoses, scissors, the dryer vent cover ON THE SIDE OF MY HOUSE and more! He has truly been a joy and a great addition to the farm family. He loves the calves and loves to work! We are so thankful he found us!

Don’t let him fool you! He loves this dog!

Oh and does he get along with Rowdy? You tell me?

Are they sharing or are they claiming?
