Haying Season 2018

I’m sitting here tonight, after working a 10 hour day at the casino, looking at old photos of my horses and sharing them to Facebook (you’ll have to check my personal Facebook page for those). I have the window open in my craft room and listening to the sounds of the tractor getting far away and then closer, farther away and closer. The crickets are chirping and I can hear a barn owl in the distance. It is 9:00 at night and my husband (David…aka Copenhagen Cowboy) is on said tractor raking hay. Yes, we both work full time and yes, we farm/ranch in our “spare” time. People ask if we ever rest. This IS rest for us. We love working the farm and tending to the cattle. Okay, so I just admitted I was on Facebook, but I help too. There is nothing more relaxing than getting in the 4 wheeler to check cattle and sitting in the open pasture listening to the meadow larks and crickets and hearing the sound of cattle squeaking the grass as they graze. Every so often you will see a bull bat soaring in the air and diving quickly. The sound it makes is eerie as the wind rushes through its’ wings, it’s a low groaning sound that I can’t explain. There is nothing more relaxing to me than to just sit there quietly and listen.

I just heard the tractor pulling into the barn and the squeak of the gate as it was shut. I guess it’s time to make some dinner. Doesn’t everyone eat at 9:10 PM every night?
