It’s Watermelon Season … How to Slice a Watermelon

I don’t know where I saw this but it has been several years ago. I have been using this technique to cut watermelon since reading it. I thought I would share it with you today. Here is how I slice a watermelon.

First cut the watermelon into two equal halves. Place the watermelon cut side down onto your cutting board. Using a sharp knife slice down, removing the outside skin of the watermelon.

When all of the exterior skin is removed, clean up the watermelon by slicing off all the white parts (I don’t know the technical name for it.)

Place the peeled watermelon, cut side down, on a large dinner plate and begin to slice it right to left (or left to right if you’re a lefty).

Rotate the plate 90 degrees and slice it the same way again.

You should now have something that looks similar to this:

Place a bowl over the top of the sliced watermelon…

And placing your hand under the plate, holding it onto the bowl, flip the bowl over.

Lift the plate and TahDah! A bowl full of perfectly sliced watermelon. Just right for little hands to hold!
